Canadian Service Mark Guidelines

In Canada fewer marks have been registered than in the US. When using a trade-marked term that is NOT registered in Canada, rather than following American usage as set out in the US Guidelines, you should follow the first prominent use of the term with the superscript "TM" to show that the term is protected in another jurisdiction, or is pending registration. In Canada, both Feldenkrais® Method and Feldenkrais MethodTM are acceptable. More detailed information can be found in the guidelines below.

WHO CAN USE THEM?
Only Guild Certified Feldenkrais PractitionersTM and authorized ATM Teachers may use the service marks. The certification marks may be used by graduates only. Continued use requires current certification or current enrollment in an FGNA-Accredited training program. The use of trademark terms described within these Guidelines is for materials published in Canada. The use of terms in materials created by FGNA may differ because of differences in the U.S. legislation and in the number of terms that have been registered.

WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO? -- There are 4 rules:

  1. Make the marks distinctive, in every occurrence of every mark - set them apart with capital letters, italics, bold or a different color or font throughout the document.

  2. Mark the marks with ® or TM at the first or most prominent appearance.

  3. Use the marks as an adjective in the first and most prominent appearance in the text or other visual presentation, (e.g. Feldenkrais® Method of somatic education or Feldenkrais MethodTM of somatic education). Appropriate nouns for these terms are listed above with the term.

  4. Identify Feldenkrais GuildTM of North America as the owner, e.g. "Feldenkrais®, Feldenkrais MethodTM, Awareness Through Movement®, Prise de conscience par le mouvementMD , Functional Integration® and L'intégration fonctionnelleMD are registered service marks and Guild Certified Feldenkrais PractitionerTM is a certification mark of Feldenkrais GuildTM of North America".
